Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano celebrates its 75th Anniversary
In such a competitive world, mastery of foreign languages is a gateway to multiple job, social, and economic opportunities. Thanks to the arrival of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) in the Dominican Republic over seven decades ago, the teaching of the English language is gaining more ground.
Under this premise, Darío Lama, President of the Board of Directors of ICDA, stated, during the celebration of the institution’s 75th Anniversary, that over these years, they have provided the country with over three million Dominicans trained in the English language and other areas of knowledge.
“Our footprint in Dominican society is very deep, a result of quality work, demonstrated dedication and effort, and a constant process of growth, development, and expansion,” emphasized Lama.
The President of the Board of Directors recalled how since its arrival in 1947, through the teaching of English and American culture, they have transformed the lives of hundreds of citizens when the country barely reached two million inhabitants.
“As an educational institution, we have great challenges, and our true achievement will always be the transformation in the lives of many Dominicans through education,” reiterated Lama, thanking all administrative staff and teachers for their commitment.
During the event, the documentary of ICDA’s 75th Anniversary was presented, highlighting the significance of the institution from its inception to the present day, combining history with experiences of graduates and teachers. The occasion was also used to recognize the United States Embassy for its immense support and accompaniment over the years. Likewise, the institution acknowledged the commendable work of Mr. Arthur Valdez, a member of the ICDA Board of Directors. Also honored were Osmany Rodríguez, writer and director of Saturday Night Live, several television series, and the movie Vampires vs. the Bronx, as an outstanding graduate; and Mr. Pedro Moneró, as the teacher with the most years in the school.
Administrative and teaching collaborators of the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA), the Language School, and the Domínico Americano Preschool were also recognized for their years of service, as well as outstanding graduates of the institution.
Since its foundation, ICDA’s evolution has been constant, and our school is a testament to that. In 1987, with the intention of promoting and providing a balanced educational program, with instruction in the English language while preserving Dominican language, culture, and history, the Colegio del Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano was created, known today as Domínico Americano School.
As part of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, we feel proud and honored to be part of this successful trajectory.
