Elba D. Portes, M. Ed.

School Director
Ms. Elba D. Portes is a prominent educator and school leader with over 40 years of experience in teaching, school administration, and academic leadership. Throughout her professional career in education, she has proudly held the following positions: Early Childhood Teacher Early Childhood Supervisor Elementary Education Teacher Elementary School Principal Middle and High School Principal Secondary Education Advisor Translator (Spanish-English) Academic Director General Director of Educational Institution Cognia Review Team Member School Board Member She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), a Master’s Degree in Education from Framingham State College, a Post-Graduate Degree in General Management from Barna Management School, and has completed studies in Educational Leadership at Western Carolina University. Since joining Cognia as an Engagement Review Team Member in 2019, Ms. Portes has actively participated in accreditation processes across Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Honduras. She is passionate about promoting educational excellence, inspiring lifelong learning, and empowering students to become confident, critical thinkers prepared to lead the future.

Sabrina Acosta

Elementary School Supervisor
Sabrina Acosta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Languages from Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago, and holds a Master's Degree in Linguistics Applied to English Language Teaching from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. She started working at the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano in 2009 as an English teacher. In August 2010, she joined Colegio Domínico Americano as a teacher of English Literature for fourth grade of elementary school, and also taught the subject to sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth grades. In 2015, she went on to collaborate in the school's curriculum department. She currently holds the position of Elementary School Supervisor, a position she has held since August 2019.

SECONDARY

Anabel Camacho

Secondary Supervisor
Anabel Camacho is from the city of Moca. She completed her studies at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and at INTEC University in Santo Domingo. In 2007, she joined the school team as a primary school teacher and then as a literature teacher for the first cycle of secondary school. She completed a Postgraduate Degree in English Education at UNICDA and by 2014, she completed the SIT TESOL course certification and a blended program of Advanced Theory in TESOL in Costa Rica. In 2019, she completed a Master's degree in TESOL Education, from the Graduate School of Marlboro College, Vermont. Anabel is a certified trainer by the School for International Training (SIT) and World Learning through Teacher Training Costa Rica (CEM). She is a trainer for Teacher Development Center (TDC) projects and works as an Instructional Coach for the Domínico Americano School. In her position, she follows up on the Coaching Program, training and pedagogical accompaniment for teachers among other Professional Development activities.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

Doralis Cordero

Primary School Psychologist and Community Service Supervisor
Doralis Cordero was born in La Romana, Dominican Republic. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in School Psychology from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). She has completed several diploma studies including Learning Disorders and Neuro-Pedagogy and Inclusive Education. She holds a Master's degree in Psychological Intervention in Development and Education with a double degree from Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLÁNTICO) and Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (UNINI-MX). Currently, she is the Elementary School Psychologist at the Domínico-Americano School.

Ada Núñez

Secondary School Psychologist
Ada Núñez was born in New York, USA. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Universidad Pedro Henríquez Ureña and a Master's Degree in Education from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. She has completed postgraduate studies with a double degree from MESCYT and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, both in Language Neuroscience and Neuroscience and Education. She also completed a Diploma in Human Development taught by Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo and the United Nations. She completed a Seminar on Family Rights for Educational Institutions, as well as the AASCA Child Protection Response Team Training for School Leadership. She was a middle school teacher for several years. Currently, she holds the position of Head of the Psychology Department and Secondary School Counselor at the Domínico Americano School.

Mercedes Honorina Tirado Pérez

MINERD-DAS Liaison Department
Dominican, born in Santo Domingo. Dedicated to Center Management, enthusiastic and dynamic as a means to create and nurture an environment of motivation, order and growth. Graduated in Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, Postgraduate degree in Administration and Teacher Supervision from INTEC, Diploma in Senior Management in Public Personnel Management from ONAP, Facilitator Training Program for Directors of Educational Centers from INTEC-EDUCA-PIPE. UTE University Facilitator. Certification of participation for Training in registration and admission area from University of Puerto Rico (UPR) in Coordination with the Asociación de Universidades Dominicanas (ADRU). Participation in Volunteer Visitor Program. Franklin Center for University Management Development-Graduate area, XI Congress of Human Sexuality for the Elderly. France, Paris 2000.

Elsi Sención

In charge of Discipline
Elsi Sención was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, obtained her B.A. in Clinical Psychology from Universidad del Caribe (Unicaribe), and holds a Master's Degree in Education with a focus on Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale. She studied at Saint Paul's College and Manitoba University, Winnipeg, Canada. She began her work at Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) in 1996 as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and then in 2004 she moved to the Domínico Americano School (DAS) as a teacher of Literature, Science and Health and Social Studies until 2012. In the school year 2010 - 2011 she collaborated in the elementary psychology department of the Colegio Domínico Americano. In the year 2012 she migrates to the USA where she begins her work as English Bilingual Liaison at Heights Terrace School of the Hazleton Area School District, PA (HASD) until 2019. She rejoins the Domínico Americano School as Discipline Manager in 2019.

Michael Moore

ICDA Evaluations Coordinator
Born in the Midwest of the United States, he grew up between a small town in Indiana and Chicago, IL. He studied in Ecuador and Spain. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from Stetson University (Florida). He was a Peace Corps Volunteer from 2005 to 2008. He has completed online courses in education, evaluation and/or statistics from the prestigious institutions of Arizona State University, the University of Virginia, and Rice University. He joined ICDA ten years ago as a Test Specialist in the Assessment Department, where he designed standardized assessment tools for the Language School. He currently serves as Coordinator of the Assessment Department. Recently, he joined the DAS leadership team where his primary role has been to assist in data analysis. The analysis covers trends in student performance on standardized tests, along with perceptions of students, parents, and teachers about their experiences at DAS.

Indhira Rosario

Indhira Rosario was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She completed her secondary education at Roosevelt High School in New York. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Educational Management. She joined the Domínico Americano School in 2004 as a teacher and has since held various roles within the institution. She is currently the Activities Coordinator for the School and Preschool, as well as for the CCEP and CCEP SS extracurricular programs.

Invone Guzmán

She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She is an Industrial Engineer graduated from the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC), where she also obtained a Master's degree in Senior Management. Additionally, she holds a Postgraduate degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Education from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), in collaboration with the University of Murcia, Spain. Since 1998, she has worked in the education sector as a teacher, coordinator, and principal, with extensive experience in the areas of Mathematics and Sciences. She has also led initiatives in environmental education and natural resources conservation. Her work is aimed at promoting academic excellence, values, and the comprehensive development of students.

Paola Tejeda

Curricular Leader at the Domínico Americano School, an institution she has been a part of since 2017. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education, with a concentration in English, from the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA), and a Master's degree in Education with a specialty in Educational Center Management. Throughout her career, she has worked as a First and Third-Grade teacher and an ESL program teacher. She currently supports curriculum implementation, faculty development, and academic analysis, promoting innovative educational practices and meaningful learning.

Orly Rojas

She is an Instructional Coach at the Domínico Americano School. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). She has experience in academic leadership, instructional coaching, teacher training, and curriculum development in K-12 contexts. She has participated as a speaker at educational events and is currently part of the international SIT TESOL program as a Trainer in Training (TBT). Her work is focused on professional teacher development and the creation of meaningful learning experiences.
